Do you have the guts to be like Paul?
"The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."Philippians 4: 9
Can you stand up and boldly say as Paul did, having the audacity to tell people to look at him and do what they see him doing?
How dare him? Does he think he is something special?
Oh it takes boldness to say something like this. So let me ask you, do you have what it takes because that is exactly what it takes to be a true mentor that the Lord can use. It takes being prepared to be an example and to invite people into your life so that they can imitate you.
You actually have to come to a point where you can boldly say, "Look at me, look at how do things and copy me!"
In the natural this is so obvious, isn't it? If you want to teach someone how to fix a car, you open the hood and you show them how it's done. You are not aware of yourself or wonder how you look.
However, when it comes to the spiritual walk, you tend to make it so complicated and think all about you, "Am I righteous enough to do this? Can I really say it like that? Will they listen to me?"
Why are we making it so complicated? Let us get back to the simplicity of the Word and of our faith. Really! If you have a mentor, then copy him. If you are the mentor, it is for you to show your disciple the "how to's" and give him something to imitate.
It is obvious that you as a mentor must first have walked the road before in order to show someone the right way! So take a deep breath and be bold in what God has given you. Have the guts to allow people to see your life and let it be an example. As a mentor, you need to be prepared to be transparent, otherwise you will not get very far.
Where are you today? What do you think? Do you have the guts? Do you have the courage to say, "Hey come and look at me, I am an example of how to live a righteous life and walk in the spirit."
Oh yeah, sure thing! There is only one way that qualifies you to proclaim such a statment...
You will qualify when you have walked the road before. What does that mean? It means that you have gone first and made all the mistakes yourself. You fell into all the holes, you crashed against every wall and you missed every turn. Hmmm, does that sound familiar? If this is your life story then you are more than ready to stand up and boldly proclaim:
"Come ye and look at me. Walk how I walk and you will succeed!"
It is only when you have walked the road yourself and failed gloriously, will you be able to teach others the right way.
When you have that kind of boldness, you will indeed reflect His glory! I pray that you will rise up with what the Lord has given you and that you in turn, pass it on to others. In His Love,
