Normally, I try to come to you with an encouraging word or something uplifting in some sort of way. However, today I want to change it up a bit. I want to come to you with a challenge? Are you ready for it?
I can see all the expressive natured people shouting, "Bring it on!" :)
Ok. Over the past while, as I am talking to someone live or over the phone, I like to ask them, "How has everything been lately?" I am sure that you know this already because you have read many of my letters.
We all know that this is just common courtesy to ask this question or something similar. However, many times you will hear people respond with, "Everything is going well. I am fine. Everything is perfect because I have Jesus Christ!"
I really love this cliché that I have heard. It says, "I am too blessed to be stressed and too anointed to be disappointed." Hahaha. I really love that. It is a cute saying.
However, let's get real, shall we? Are you really doing ok whenever someone asks you? If you are truly honest, do you always have a good day? Are you really too blessed that you never experience stress or too anointed that you never experience disappointment?
Even the Son of God himself was stressed with religious leaders. He called them "white-washed tombs". I do not think he did that because he was full of joy and gladness in that moment.
The Lord challenged me recently to really get into other people's space and say, "No. How do you really feel? What is really going on in your life right now? I know that something is bothering you. I am here. Let me be a friend."
I am not going to lie to you. This is not always easy. We have so much going on in our lives that if we be honest, we do not have time to sit and listen to someone share their "woes" with us.
However, as I did this just a few times, I found that there was so much lying beneath the surface that was eating believers alive.
The problem is that not many people care enough to really "be there" for others. Sometimes we "listen" to others, but we do not really take heed to the words they say and do all that we can to help them.
So, my challenge today is for each one of us to take responsibility and be accountable before the Lord to check up on our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let's be a body that is united and not a body divided against itself.
The Word of God says that a house divided against itself cannot stand. If we want to bring the glory of God into this world, we need unity amongst brethren. We need to flow in the agape love of Jesus Christ.
The way we are going to take the land for the Lord most effectively is with... LOVE! It is still the greatest power and no demon in Hell can fight against it. Every knee must bow and all darkness indeed flees when the agape love of Christ is shown from our hearts.
Therefore, though I have challenged you, I want to also encourage you once again. Yeah… you know that I just cannot leave without saying something encouraging. Hey, we have to build one another in faith, hope and love, right? :)
Everything that you have been seeking the Lord for, all the problems that have been arising, put someone else's problems above yours and watch how the Lord meets your very own needs and fixes your problems right before your eyes as well.
The Word says that when we give, it will be given back to us. What we sow in faith, hope and love, will come back to us in the same measure. When you [agape] love others, the Lord will always cover you too.
